Background: Rhodamine B is a synthetic dye prohibited for use in cosmetics because it is carcinogenic and can cause health problems. Purpose: The objective of this study was to identify and quantify Rhodamine B levels in 10 lip tint samples circulating in Tawangharjo District. Method: A descriptive quantitative method employing purposive sampling was used. Identification was performed using Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) with a silica gel GF254 stationary phase and an n-butanol:ethyl acetate:ammonia (10:4:5) mobile phase, while quantification was conducted using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a maximum wavelength of 542 nm. Results: TLC results indicated that six samples tested positive for Rhodamine B, with Rf values ranging from 0.42 to 0.60—close to the standard Rf value of 0.62—whereas the remaining four samples tested negative. Quantitative analysis revealed that all positive samples contained Rhodamine B at concentrations ranging from 0.0188 to 0.5450 mg/kg (equivalent to 0.00019%–0.00545%); the highest concentration was found in sample R3 at 0.5450 mg/kg. Conclusion: Based on these findings, it is concluded that the lip tint products circulating in Tawangharjo District do not meet cosmetic safety requirements set by BPOM regulations due to the presence of the prohibited dye Rhodamine B..
